okay, so Mom has been helping us witha snow day post (even though the snow here was like a bazillion years ago) for a while now, but she is having problems getting the video to upload. basically she needs to go read some directions for her new video camera. :)

Anyway, we don't want her to get lazy on helping us post blogs because let's face it, she needs kicks in the butt (or noses) to get her to upload photos and whatnot that we can't do without opposable thumbs.... so... here are some old pics of us being cute with toys to enjoy on this Monday while Mom gets her act together!!!!

Oh yeah, and an update: those darn couch covers still haven't come in so we are STILL not allowed on the couch. It is so not cool!!! We made Mom actually go to the website and show us where she ordered them because this is taking WAY too long.... something about them not 2nd day air'ing couch covers!!!! Wea re going to find a way to sneak on to the couch if this continues for much longer!!!

We got new couches at our house and have been denied couch time this week. Mom says it is just until the new couch covers arrive. She better be telling the truth!

Busted!

Most of the time us girls like to play on our own. We don't like to share our toys with each other, or our spots on the couch. This is Maggie's spot. This is MY rope toy!

But....every now and then we cuddle together and silly Mom had to get the camera out and silly Dad had to make us stay (that's uncle in the background). So we got busted cuddling. :(

Whew! We have been busy!

Hey Every pup and person!

We have a new job around our house! Not only are we guard dogs, but we are now also babysitters!! This new job keeps us very busy and explains why we haven't posted in a while! A LONG while.... pretty much we haven't posted since a week before our brothe came to live with us! He requires a lot more work than us, but we are helping Mom and Dad out! We have fun jobs as pillows, and we also keep watch on the little one.
It's a fun job! And he likes kisses so it works out well!!

Anyway, we are going to push Mom and Dad to do more posting, but we wanted to explain why we have been gone so long. New brothers are a LOT of work!

We just wanted to wish a happy 8th birthday to Belle, our sister/ cousin (we do live in Alabama!!!). She turned 8 yesterday, and we didn't get to go to her party. So, Mom may be rehired..... we'll have to wait and see how she does while she is on her probationary period. So you can rate her if you like during these posts! :) We are just going to share a bunch of photos Mom took while experimenting with her new camera. They are just us, looking cute and being sweet. Marshall is not pictured because he hates the new camera as much as he hates the old camera, but Mom says she is working on getting a new one of him.

It has been FOREVER since we have posted. And... she doesn't have any new pictures for us to put up either! We are just dropping in to let everyone know that our home computer where all the pictures are is broken. :( so until it is fixed our mom has been really lazy and not taken any pictures..... so we are thinking of firing her! We just need to learn how to work this camera thing she uses and then we will be good to go again! (and get the computer fixed of course!)

Anyway, we have been remiss in not welcoming a new blogger to the DWB ranks... well, they haven't joined dogs with blogs yet, but they are two cute dogs who blog! So go check them out here! they need more visitors, because they are really cute! And they are in Birmingham, AL too, and we need more Bham dog bloggers like Harry Pugalicious and us (when our computer and mom aren't broken!)

So, we will have a fun new post with pics soon (we promise) but check out Sassy and Eloise! We have even met Sassy in person and play with her at doggie daycare sometimes!

Sunny Saturday

Hey Puppies and People!!!
We know it has been FOREVER since we posted! WE finally had a sunny Saturday today and have been outside enjoying it! Mom and Dad brought us a gift from our grandpaw Jim, which was a joystick... it's a jerky treat that is like 3 feet long! We shared it outside on the deck this morning while Mom took out the flashy thing and took pictures. Of course, Marsh Man didn't like the camera and thought about going inside!
Opal thought the joystick was the best thing EVER!!!!

Maggie also enjoyed hers!!!

Joy sticks are awesome!! We hope we get more, but Mom and Dad said it makes us a little too gassy afterwards so it may be awhile before we get another one! We hope they forget soon!

Mom and Dad are not big fans of pollen and i haven't really understood why until this year! Apparently, i have allergies and it makes me all snotty nosed!!!! So Mom and Dad chase me around the house with paper towels and kleenex trying to get me to blow my nose. WTH, Mom and Dad! Dogs don't blow their noses!!!!
These are pictures of me feeling under the weather. Last night when they came home all i did was sleep and snot. It sucks. And i had to go to the vet to get everything checked out earlier this week. :(

So hopefully the pills they game me at the VET will kick in soon because i am tired of feeling tired and having a snotty nose! I don't get as many kisses with snot running down my face (I don't know why....)

Happy Blogaversary to Us!!!!!

Today we went to daycare, got baths, and then hung out with Mom and Dad in the mancave to celebrate our blogaversary! We were having so much fun that we almost forgot to actually blog!!! Whoops!!! So just before midnight, when it will no longer be our 1 year anniversary of blogging, we said... Mom take pictures so we can post!!!!
But 11:15 is kind of late for us so we are all trying to stay up and it isn't easy!

Did I mention we got new toys? We now have a monkey and a dragonfly-rope thingy to add to our collection! And we were so excited about our blogaversary that we didn't destroy them the first night we got them!!!!

But that could also be because we were really sleepy from daycare!!!

I mean... REALLY sleepy!!! Marshman was so sleepy that he let Mom take his picture. . . .

But how cute is Maggie in this picture??? Nothing like a sleepy BT!

Well, we are up super late for us, so we are going to actually go into our beds to sleep but hope everyone had a great Friday!

Softball Games!!!!

Dad's softball league started up again and so that means we get to go to games and watch and take in new sights!!!!
I just didn't understand why I wasn't allowed on the field. I could have caught those balls all night long!!!!!

And just so I haven't taken over the blog completely, I am attaching a video of Marshall and me running around in the grandparent's backyard!! We love going over there on Sundays and running around!!!! It's our favorite day of the week!

oh, one more thing... April 17th is a one year blogaversary!!!! So we will have to come up with something exciting to post about!!! Take note now Mom-- we don't want to miss it!!!!

Boy have we been busy!!! We've been sooo busy that we have been really lazy about our blog posting! For that we are ashamed! But here are some videos and pictures of what we have been doing.
In early March, we had snow!!! So we got to run around and play in it. . . well, some of us did anyway! Maggie was NOT a big fan!! Anyway, we are going to be better about posting, but for now, here are some pretty snow pictures and two videos taken only 7 days apart!!!

Keep in mind we live in Alabama so it will probably be another 5 years before we see snow again!

A Post by Maggie: I want to start a club!

Hey Tanner and Chef!!!
About two weeks ago, I developed this:
The vet said it is a hema........ cyst, just like you guys had!!!! Please excuse the camera because for some reason, it does not want to take a close up picture of my cyst. So, can we start up a club? What do you think?

I am not too into having my picture taken while i have this cyst thingy on my shoulder. Hopefully, it will go away in the next two weeks..... otherwise i am going to have to have some lab work done to make sure it is benign!!!!

Chef and Tanner..... i think we need t-shirts! And more pups who get these cyst-thingys to join our club!

UPDATE: I should have added that I have had these before. . . .it isn't my first cyst! I have had one removed when I was having knee surgery anyway, and my others have gone away on their own. The vet said it is actually quite common in dogs like me who have allergies, so that's one more thing Mom and Dad can be thankful about!!!! :)

I still think a club needs to be started though!

On Sunday we went to our granparent's house and played in their backyard. They have an awesome backyard to run around in as you can see from these videos!!!!!

Puppy-sitting and Couch hanging

We didn't mention this but about a week and a half ago, our pawrents totally ditched us to go to somebody's wedding.... what's up with that??? Anyway, our Uncle Chad puppy-sat us so it was totally fun and there was no vet involved so we weren't as mad at mom and dad as we usually are when they leave us! And Uncle Chad took pictures for us to put on our blog, but Mom's job is transferring the pictures from the camera to the computer and this time is took her A LONG TIME...... so we are just posting them now!

Anyway, here are the wonderful shots.... we hung out on the couch a lot while they were away: Did we mention Belle stayed with us too?

Did you notice we have three separate blankets for three separate dogs on the couch? It was way cool..... mom and dad never let us have that many blankets! They always steal one for themselves!

See how wild and crazy we are when the pawrents are away! :)

There are three dogs in the picture above, just in case you can't tell. One is a very stealthy blanket-hider-under!

And it might be this crazy faced pup right here! Maggie is so mean when she first wakes up! And she doesn't like being disturbed when she is napping, as you can see above!

Just to update a little more, these are some old pictures from when we visited Uncle Chad at his place (since he stayed with us while puppy-sitting!)

That chicken that Belle is hugging is the coolest chicken ever! Or i should say it was, because we are pretty sure it died during the puppy-sitting experience..... for some reason, Belle doesn't destroy every stuffie she touches! We are working on her stuffie-destroying skills every chance we get so that will probably change eventually.

And hey, it is the Marsh Man! I bet most of you who don't get to see us in the puppy flesh forgot he existed! He hates hates hates the camera, so we consider ourselves very lucky that Uncle Chad got this picture at his house. He doesn't look quite so freaked out as he normally does with a camera around!

And last, we had to include a picture of Mom getting one of the best things around: a kiss from Belle!!!!!! Hope everybody enjoyed the pics! We took some more this weekend at our grandpawrents house, so hopefully we will get those up soon!!!! (that means you Mom!)

We're so ashamed that we have only posted one time in January... this is us looking ashamed.... And maybe also looking a little tired.

We would like to dedicate this post however to our most cherished Christmas present.... the new couch blanket!!!! And this picture right here is the perfect example of why:

It is PERFECT for taking naps and being undetected (well, almost undetected anyway!!!!)

Also, it is sooooo much larger than the old blanket so we can all fit under there.... and our house guests can too!!!!

See how comfy our sister/ cousin Belle was sleeping under the blanket? She definitely didn't want to get up!

See how comfy Maggie was? Her eye got all googly because she had been sleeping so hard!!!!

Why is this camera always in our faces??? :)

Anyway, we are sorry we haven't been posting lately, but as you can see we have been trying to break in the new couch blanket, and that takes time and lots and lots and lots and lots of naps!

We are sorry this post once again doesn't have the Marsh Man in it..... every time our resident puparazzo picks up the camera he runs out of the room and hides. Anybody got any suggestions on how to make him less afraid of it?

Anyway, we are going to be much better about coming around all our doggies bloggies too, since we have napped enough to make us pretty lively for February at least!!!!

Football Watching and Lounging Around the House...

Since the start of 2009, we have done a LOT of football watching with lots of relatives!!! It has been pawsome!! See, Opal learned how to signal touchdown!!!!
Plus she got to sport a beautiful Alabama cap (too bad it didn't help Alabama last night!)

But doesn't she look cute in a hat??

Then we watched a bit too much of football because we had to recuperate with a nap time mid-game!!!

Some of us slept harder than others.... hee hee!!!

But all of us slept for a little bit!!!

Uncle Chad and Grandaddy Jeff and Great Grandaddy Larry came over to watch with us!!!

Oh yeah! And Belle hung out with us all night!!! Remember that is Maggie's sister- our cousin! Here she is showing off her cute little underbite!!!

Merry Belated Xmas and Happy New Year!!!!!!

Hey every pup!!! We know it has been a while since we posted but we have been busy enjoying the holidays and being very lazy about using the computer!!! But we have had a wonderful holiday!!! First of all, we want to thank every pup for all of those wonderful cards we got!!! Our parents got like 10 cards and we got somewhere around 60!!! We have been holding that over them this whole holiday season!!! Hee Hee.
They did however get us a bunch of kick ass toys to destroy!!! This is all that's left but there were about three times (three whole stockings worth) that many on Xmas morning!!!!!!

And we would like to display a beautiful picture of our sister/cousin Belle who came over on Xmas eve and decided she would be a present under the tree!!! How cute is she??

And this is Marshall and Opal with our grandparents on Christmas eve!!! We love it when they come to visit us!!!!....... although Marshall hates the camera!!!!

Happy New Year everybody!!! We have plans to be curled up on the couch with Dad watching football!!!! It is going to be pawsome!!!!

My Tale of Torture.....

Ok, so my tale of torture continues... last week, in the middle of the night, i started breathing really heavy and woke mom and dad up. they listened to my breathing, woke me up, and i was still breathing really heavy and i didn't want to stay awake. so of course, they are worriers and called the emergency V-E-T to see if i needed to go for a midnight ride somewhere. Well, we didn't go, but i continued breathing really heavy for about an hour. So then i got a trip to my

V-E-T the next day, who of course recommended a cardiologist, so then i got to go to another

V-E-T, who gave me this 24 hour heart monitor that i had to have strapped to my chest. So i got to wear my pretty sweater for a day. don't i look cute?

Then the rest of the torture. . .mom and dad had to take this stupid, mean, clingy device off. Part of my torture is documented, but mom and dad didn't have the heart to tape the whole thing, because the end of the video gets VERY difficult to watch. It is below after the pictures of my triumph over that stupid torture device!!!

Those sticky things were VERY hard to get off, but i will spare you the pain of that part of my torture.

The important thing is i got to enact my revenge upon that mean ole machine!!!

It didn't stand a chance!!!!

Note from Opal's mom: apparently boxers are prone to cardiac problems, so we decided to do this preliminary test after her breathing episode. If i had known how much it would suck to take it off afterwards, i would have debated doing it. I called the vet, but they had no suggestions except to just struggle through taking off the bandage! Argh. Thank god Opal is a sweet dog, but we just felt terrible the entire time. she is okay now and seems to have forgiven us for the torture. They definitely need to start using better bandages though, because it took out so much of her hair when coming off.

Mom and Dad got a wonderful tree and put it in the house this week..... we watched them decorate, and offered to help, but since our "help" involved taking the ornaments and running around with them, Mom and Dad said they could do without our help (so rude aren't they?)

Award and Parrots

Our Uncle Chad gave us a lovely new stuffie of a parrot this weekend. Isn't it cute?

Opal got a hold of it and she destroyed it in less than 10 minutes......

Poor little guy-- never had a chance!!! Mom took video of it so you could see her destuffing powers!! There are two videos and one is a little long because mom never gets tired of watching that sort of thing! We said that mom should have waited to submit this picture to Lickedtoys.com, because this was way more destruction than that flea from the other day!!!

On a totally difference note, we got awards from our new friend Sofie we wanted to put up!!! Aren't they pretty??

We know these awards have been around the block, but we haven't had them before, so we want to pass them along to our friend Khyra!!! Thanks so much Sofie!!

Anyway, our friend Belle (cousin/sister) visited last night and we have pics to post but Mom has to upload them onto the computer for us, so we will post later!!! Have a great Wednesday everypup!!!

There was a flea in the house tonight.....

But we put Opal on the job, and he didn't last very long..... his stuffing on the carpet is all that's left....

We got another new stuffie.... he is a duck with a star-studded helmet and a red cape. Opal and I were very interested in this new stuffie...

How could we not be? He makes such a wonderful noise... but sadly, there is no video to go along with this post because Mom and Dad didn't take any....

Marshall got a new haircut this week too, but he didn't feel like posing for any pictures....but Mom snuck one in while she could

Bath Time!!!

I had to get a bath the other day, and I ask you, does any other puppy have to endure such agony???
I HATE BATHS!!! It takes at minimum two people to bathe me because one has to hold me in the bathtub while the other one cleans me. . . .

And my sister kept watching me and my silly Mom kept taking my picture!!! Is that really fair?? I don't think it is!!!!

Opal even tried to drink the fresh water before i got to use it to get the soap off!!! What's wrong with her? That's just weird.

Won't someone come rescue me?

I didn't know this but Mom took some video too, so i am going to post it.... she also said I had to mention that I get hives and I have special soap that has to stay on for 10 minutes once its on, so Dad and Uncle aren't torturing me on purpose in this video. oh, and the sound might be a little loud so you may want to turn down the volume when you watch it!!!

Award and Bark for a Park

We got this lovely award from our friend Petra, (who, btw, is looking oh so cute at her blog with her new collar) and we love it!!!! We love her blog too!!! Thanks so much Petra!!! Maybe one day Mom will teach us (or will learn herself!) how to put this award as a button/badge on the side of our blog so everyone can see it for a long time!!! (are you getting this hint Mom??) We know this award has been around a while and many puppies have probably already gotten it, but we love all the puppies' blogs that we read daily (or as often as mom and dad let us at the computer) so please consider it for all of you!!!

On another note, Marshall cheated on us girls and went to Bark for a Park on Sunday (an event to raise money for a dog park in Birmingham, which we think is a VERY worthy cause since there aren't any) and hung out with two girls that were not his sisters.... and it looks like he had an awesome time!!!

Update on the new toys. . . .

We love Saturday mornings, but this Saturday morning was special!!! Mom got up this morning and felt like being productive so she got out her needle and thread and got busy repairing our toys!!! (Yes, our new toys already needed repairing and we had one old one that needed help too).

This is how the martian man looked before Mom started with him. Fortunately, he has a foot on now, but we don't have any pictures of this to share of its repair, because immediately after she fixed it, we took it and kind of broke it again!!!!

Now we are just waiting for the football game tonight so we can go watch the Bama game!!!

oh, and pee..... ess.... Mack, we found the martian at Superpetz. it surprised us that there was something there that was soo cool, because normally they don't have anything. We asked mom about the store you mentioned, but she had never heard of it, although it sounds really cool and for hip pups, which we consider ourselves to be!! So we are going to have to work on getting one of those in Birmingham!!!!

Daycare is exhausting, but we got new toys this week so we have to show them off!!

Mom and Dad got back and picked us up on Monday from the V-E-T, where we had to get our annual shots, so that was no fun!!! But since then, we have been going to daycare all this week, and we have been SOOOOO tired when we come home, we don't have the energy to pick up the computer and blog about it! But, Mom and Dad did get us some new toys, so we had to show them off, since we like them sooo much! Amazingly enough, they are still in one piece, so that shows you how tired we have been from daycare this week!!!

Last night we went to our Dad's softball game and we had the BEST time!!!!
See how crazy excited Maggie was???

This is what we did to our leashes while we were watching!!! Mom had to figure everything out as best as she could!!! Hee hee.

But she managed to keep the leashes in check so that we could watch the game!! See how cute Marshall looks.... right after this picture was taken, Marshall hid under the table for the rest of the night!!

We really like going to Dad's softball games!!!! Maybe we will get to go to some more!!!

Happy Late Halloween!!!

Happy Belated Halloween everybody!!!
We didn't dress up for Halloween as you can tell from the pic below, but we have been having fun at our house!!!!
And we have been catching up on our sleep . . .

And looking awfully cute doing so!!!!

We have also been watching some fun Bama games (sorry Desert Pups, but this shot is from the game against the Vols!! :( ). How cute do Maggie and Belle look together in their matching collars!!!!

And of course Opal has been destuffing all the toys nearby!!! She also beheaded a few....

So we have been pretty busy!!! Plus, Maggie has been working on her singing:

This weekend, Mom and Dad totally ditched us to go on some kind of a trip! Maggie and Marshall went to Grampa Jim and Granmaw Jeanne's (they did not have a pupparazzo following them around so they are not featured in this post), while i got to go to Uncle Chad's and hang out with my favorite cousin Belle!!! We had some good bonding time!!!

See how pretty she is! She is Maggie's biological sister, just of a different litter!!
While we were moping and missing Mom and Dad, they were partying it up at some guy's birthday bash in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico... what's up with that?

They don't look like they are missing us very much!!!! :(

They have been loving on us a lot though since they got back, so i think maybe we will forgive them.... eventually!!!! But, until then, what should we do to make them pay for what they did?? Please give us suggestions!!

Prepping for Saturday Football!!!

So yesterday we watched a lot of football.... and were so pleased that Bama won!!! But the pupparazzi (which are usually everywhere) were not around while we watched the game, so we are going to show you what we did to prepare for a football Saturday.

First we had to rest up with Dad so that we could stay awake for the game!!

Then Maggie had to warm up her voice (she has SUCH a lovely singing voice!!):

Go Alabama!!!

Yesterday we watched the game at our house, and we had some visitors!!!! Our Grandpa Jeff came over and Maggie's sister Belle (Maggie's cousin too- we are from Alabama you know!! :)) and our Uncle Chad. It was awesome!!!
And I had this awesome shirt to wear to cheer on our team!!!
It was a LOOOONG game!!!!
I had to rest a lot during because it was so long!!!!

Oh.My.Dog.We have the BEST day yesterday!!!!!

Saturday was awesome!!! We went to Uncle Chad's house and picked him up and then went over to Granpaw Jim and Grandma Jeanne's house to watch the Alabama game!!! (Mom and Dad are HUGE Bama fans!!!) Opal has a favorite ball at their house (it is called a babble ball but it is broken) (Opal note: just because it is broken does not make that ball any less AWESOME!!) so we made her take a picture with Uncle Chad and her ball!!!

Dad made it home yesterday afternoon and we were SUPER excited to see him!!!!!!
But we were a little lazy on Sunday and didn't want to pick up the computer......in fact, we pretty much did this ALL afternoon:

It was great!! We are in daycare this week, so usually we are pretty tired when we come home, but we will try and muster the strength to post again this week (and of course steal the computer from Mom or Dad)! Hope everyone had great weekends... we had lots of Mom time, but we still prefer it when the whole family is together!!!

We have been pretty slack about posting lately... we have been to daycare this past week so we have been soooo exhausted when we get home that we haven't posted!!! But this is what we have been doing: hanging in the grass and laying around....

Maggie is an Olympian!!!

Maggie won this medal yesterday for her mess making abilities!!!!
This is the winning picture!!! Isn't she cute?? Totally caught in the act! :) Hee Hee.
We were very excited for her, considering Mom only entered us puppies in two events!! She says she dropped the ball on uploading and emailing the other events but that we would have won lots had she been better about it!!!

Speaking of needing to be better about it, Opal received a wonderful award from our friend Gucci earlier this week that she have been lazy about posting (mainly because our mean ole parents haven't let us near the computer this week!!!)
Anyway, it's a credit card so it has rules that she needs to follow to the letter, so she is going to try! However, Opal isn't always very good about following the rules!!!

Update on the past week...

We didn't post very much this week, so we wanted to share what we did......
We finally destroyed the egg baby stuffy (it really didn't take long) and we have stashed some of the squeakers around the house!! Notice it now only has one eye!!!
We also destroyed a few other toys.......

And then we wanted to show off what our Aunt Rene did... she is SUCH an amazing artist!! Mom had her barkday last Saturday and our Aunt made her a leash holder to put on the wall, complete with US on it!!! Doesn't it look amazing??!! And it has our favorite toys in the background!!! Mom said it was the most awesome gift!!!
Also, Mom was very stressed at work so we showed her she could relax because we could take care of protecting the house!

I got tagged by my sweet friend Chef (or should I say Rocko?) to play this game, so I am going to try to a good job of answering everything!

What is your name?
Opal is what everybody calls me. My papers say: Weavers Opal Pearl. My mom and Dad call me Opal Kerfluffle, which is my favorite nickname!! But i have lots of other nick names: Opie, Kerfluff, Miss Kerfluffle (i really like that one too!), Munchkin (started when I was the smallest of our bunch), and uncle sometimes calls me K-Fluff!

If you could change your name, what would it be? well, i love my name, but i wish mom and dad had started calling me Miss Kerfluffle earlier, so my official name could be Weavers Opal Kerfluffle!!! But Opal Pearl will do! :)

What is your pet's name? I don't have any pets.... unless you count Mom and Dad!!! I would say my stuffies, but i really don't keep any long enough to be pets! ;)

If you could change your pet's name, what would it be? I kind of like Mom and Dad so I will keep calling them that!

What are your brother's and/or sister's names? I don't have any biological sisters, only 3 brothers, but I didn't keep up with them after Mom and Dad took me home. My actual brother is Marshall, my sister is Maggie, and Maggie's sister is Belle, so i don't know what that makes her to me, but it's gotta be something, right?

I wouldn't change their names, because maggie would probably beat me up if i tried. j/k Maggie (kind of!)

What we have done this past week......

We haven't blogged very much this week, because we have had some bad storms!!! So we haven't been trying to get on the computer because we didn't want to risk getting shocked with all that lightning!!!
Even a tree came down in our neighbor's yard!!! (sorry this pic is sideways)
So we have been sitting around the house recuperating this weekend....
One more thing though.... July 31 was my adoption day (Opal) so Mom and Dad got me the coolest toy ever!!!! IT has multiple squeakers you can take in and out!!! How long do you think it is going to last with me, the best desqueakers in the world working on it?? :)
If you look in the background of this pic, i have already removed one squeaker... if you look closely at the floor where the green stuff is, that is that squeaker's innards!!!! Best. Toy. Ever.
Here is a video of me playing with it!! This is much better than my last adoption day when mom and dad brought me home and gave me a bath to get all the fleas off of me!!!!

We just read this article on MSNBC--the rest of it is below the pics of the Marshman--so we had to post pics of our lovely black dog that came from the shelter and had been on death row since he had been in the shelter a while...... but he met Mom and stole her heart so she took him home with her! These pics are a little old, because the Marshman decided he hated cameras sometime in 2007 so it is hard to get new good ones! But we LOVE our black dog and hate to think of others wasting away in shelters simply because they look mean (or whatever other reason).

It's not like Pamela Gregg was a stranger to helping out the underdog. She thought she knew what kinds of pooches linger the longest in animal shelters: Older dogs, abused dogs, sick or injured dogs — dogs like George Bailey, the hound mix she'd rescued after he'd been struck by a car.
But black dogs? While searching for a companion for George Bailey, Gregg was shocked to see a banner on an Ohio animal shelter's Web site that detailed how tough it is for big dogs with black coats to find homes.
"It said something like, 'We know that you people prefer colors, but we've got wonderful black dogs here, won't you please consider them?'" recalls Gregg, who's 49 and lives in Xenia, Ohio. "I was shocked, because I think that black dogs are beautiful — and I couldn't believe people would not get a dog based on its color."
To the uninitiated, the idea seems so strange — doggie discrimination? But among those in animal rescue circles, the phenomenon is commonplace enough to have earned its own name: "black dog syndrome."
"There's not a lot of that type of statistics on many aspects of sheltering," says Kim Intino, the director of animal sheltering issues for the Humane Society of the United States. "But I think that every person that has worked in a shelter can attest that in shelters animals with black coats can be somewhat harder to adopt out — or to even get noticed."

Even after a year had passed at a Los Angeles animal shelter, no one had noticed Estelle. Except, of course, for the staff; they fawned over the big black dog and her gentle demeanor. They started letting Estelle roam the office during the day, which let one couple see her in action — outside her cage and calmly interacting with people. They fell for her, and took her home.
But not every black dog is lucky enough to get that kind of special attention, says Madeline Bernstein, the president of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Los Angeles.
"They're the hardest to adopt out, they're in the shelters the longest and therefore, they're most likely to be euthanized if nothing happens," Bernstein says. (Breeders don't tend to face this problem at the level that shelters do, simply because they have fewer animals to deal with than a city shelter that takes strays in every day.)
Bernstein has plenty of theories about why people might not want black dogs in animal shelters. It's mostly an unconscious thing, she says, which may explain why black cats have the same problems finding a home. People who are aware of superstitions about black cats (don't let them cross your path!) may also be unconsciously harboring superstitions about black dogs.

In British folklore, such as stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Sir Walter Scott, the black dog is a creepy, spectral figure that haunts cemeteries and is an omen of death. (Non-lit geeks who've never heard of those stories have at least seen "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban," in which a big black dog called the Grim stalks Harry.) Another Englishman, Winston Churchill, battled serious bouts of depression which he called "the black dog."
But some speculate that black dogs just don't have the right look to catch the eye of potential adopters.

"Black dogs might appear older; even when they're young, they have bits of facial hair that may be white or gray," Bernstein says. And the ignored breeds are often those who simply look a little big and scary, and whose bad reputations may have preceded them, such as Rottweiler, Doberman pinscher and pit bull mixes.

Bernstein says some people turn in their black dogs to the shelters because they've gotten new furniture and don't like the dark fur their pet sheds.

Too hard to seeBut it may be the simplest reason that's costing these dogs a good home — their black coats can make them invisible in poorly lit kennels. (Same problem happens with amateur photos on shelters' Web sites, which is how many people find the dog they intend to adopt.)
"Sometimes if a potential adopter sees a whole row of black dogs, they think, 'Maybe they're not being adopted for a good reason. Maybe there's something wrong with these dogs,'" Bernstein says.

So volunteers at some shelters put extra energy into getting their black dogs noticed. They place brightly colored, eye-catching blankets and toys in their kennels. At Bernstein's shelters, they tie pink ribbons around the necks of the girls, and fasten big bow ties around the necks of the boys.
"In our kennels, the black dogs are all decked out," Bernstein says.

One shelter in Kettering, Ohio, the Society for the Improvement of Conditions for Stray Animals even ran a special discount on black dogs in February, slashing adoption fees in half after executive director Rudy Bahr realized that out of his shelters' 42 dogs, 28 of them were big and black. Bahr instructs his employees in the same sort of tactics Bernstein's shelters take to attract attention to black dogs, like tying bandannas around their necks and taking the dogs to a well-lit area outside to have their photo taken for their Web site.

It was that kind of photo on the shelter's site that attracted Gregg's attention as she continued her search for a companion for George Bailey. "I was trolling through their pictures and there she was," Gregg says. "She was a hound mix like George Bailey, but Molly is sleek, shiny black. As soon as I saw her I completely fell in love. I couldn't get in my car fast enough."
Molly and Bailey turned out to be a perfect match, and if Gregg someday rescues another dog, she says she'll definitely go for a big black dog.

"If and when I get another dog, I will probably deliberately look for another black dog, only because I've learned of black dog syndrome," Gregg says. "Bring 'em my way, because I love 'em."

Softball Game!!!

We got to go Dad's softball game and watch him play yesterday!! It was so much fun but it was so hot too!! Fortunately, Mom brought us some water to drink and ice to chew on!! Death of "Hissy"

While Mom and Dad were away today, I played with one of my favorite stuffies.... Mr. Hissy!! He is a big ole cat and Mom said he was indestructible!! Well, he wasn't... and I showed her today!!! She came home today to find my kennel in this shape.....

Stuffie innards everywhere!!! I did such a good job that Mom couldn't even find the squeaker when she went looking for it! And I was clever and took all the innards out from the head, right here:
Just because i tore apart my stuffie didn't mean i was done playing with him......
I like to stretch out completely when i am chewing on my stuffies! Mom thinks it is silly so she took a picture and told me to post it! You don't think it's silly do you??

Sadly, it is not us who are going on vacation but our parents! :( They told us we are going to go visit Miss Janet and Miss Billie and Miss Claire at the VET. Not that we don't like them, but we want to go on vacation too!!! Not Fair Mom and Dad!!! We don't know what a beach is but we think we would like it very much! Mom said something about the place we are going not allowing pets because it is for sale and has to stay "nice" but we would be good!!! We promise!!!
Anyway, until they get back, we will be doing this:

We also wanted to say sorry we haven't posted this week, but we have daycare this week and when we get home from daycare we are EXHAUSTED and just want to sleep and don't want to get on the computer or get our pictures taken!! We would post this weekend but stupid Mom and Dad aren't leaving the computer with us at the VET so we will have to wait until Monday. :(.

Sunday Dinner!!

On Sundays, we get to go to Grampa Jim and Grammaw Jeanne's house for dinner... it is awesome!! There are two cats to play with... even if they don't like playing!!! And there is......
some really yummy food so we can practice our begging!! it usually gets us lots of yummy food over there!
And they have a huge yard and back porch where we get to hang out!!

And of course, part of our hanging out is looking cute, like Maggie does right here.....
And unfortunately, there was a thunderstorm so Marshall got to get all drooley and panty, as pictured here.....
Here is a shot of the sky so you know he isn't faking! ;)
And for good measure, here is one more of me begging, since that is what we do best over there....tonight it got us lots of yummy salmon to snack on!!
We hope everyone else had as good a Sunday night as we did.... it was awesome!! Now we have to get our beauty sleep, because we are full and because tomorrow, we have to be rested up for doggie daycare!!

Happy 4th of July everyone!! Dad came back from vacation last night so we are going to be able to spend the holidays together!! We hope everyone else has a great day!!!

Puppies Get Treats!!!! Hooray!! We got yummy yummy frosty paws!!!

They were so good that even Marshall joined us for a picture!!! We don't know if all puppies get yummy treats while their Dads are on vacation, but we do!!! It isn't as nice as having Dad at home but we take what we can get!!

The biggest squeaker i ever saw!!!!

I took apart one of the stuffies i got for my birthday this afternoon... and what did i find?? the BIGGEST squeaker i have ever seen inside a stuffie!! It was wonderful.... I had to chew it up as much as i could......

This was the stuffie it came from.... i highly recommend it to any squeaker chewers out there!!!

I kind of destroyed a roll of paper towels and maybe also a pair of mom's shoes. i wouldn't let her take a picture of the evidence so this is all we got to post. she really knows it is her fault for not giving us enough to do so i had to otherwise occupy myself!!

Opal here. I forgot to mention... tomorrow is my birthday!! I turn 1 years old. Mom is getting all nostalgic (not that i know what that means!!!!) so she wanted to put some old puppy pics of me up.... she hasn't told me how we are celebrating yet!!!

This is me getting my first taste of the computer... i was only 2 months old... i wasn't blogging then but i was watching Mom.. so here is where it all began! :)

I may or may not have peed on the couch yesterday. ... Mom took pictures for evidence......(mean Mom!!). So i had to spend a little time in the kennel to think about what I did....
But... I look so pathetic that Mom and Dad couldn't keep me in there very long....so they let me out!! They even gave me Frosty Paws as a treat!!! This last pic is me laying on Dad after eating my Frosty Paw enjoying my food coma!!!

Allergy Testing

Yesterday I had to go to the vet to get tested for allergies! It was not fun.
They shaved a piece of my fur off and poked me 81 times!!! and they took some of my blood to be sent away for even more testing!! I told Mom I didn't sign on for that!!

Anyway, she took some pics because she thought it looked like they gave me a tattoo!

You can see it much better in this picture!!
Anyway, now i have lots of medication i have to take... and they said i was going to have to take baths once a week with two different shampoos!!! This sucks! I am not happy about it. Not at all! I wonder how long my tattoo will last though.... i didn't think i was the kind of girl who was into tattoos, but it's kind of cute right?

This may just look like a picture of us sleeping, but it isn't...... we got a new bear toy!! We are actually cuddling with our new bear toy!! In this next pic, you can see it under my chin, see??
Then i got my alone time with the bear and gave it some good hugs!!!
And we took a nap together for a little while......
Then i was feeling sweet and let Maggie cuddle next to it too!! Silly Dad woke her up with the flash when he took the picture!!

I hope this bear toy lasts for a while-- although i did take out one of its eyes this morning!!!

A Visit to Uncle Chad's House!!!!

Thursday night, we took a field trip over to Uncle Chad's house!! it was awesome, minus one thing- we kept looking for Maggie's sister and our cousin (we are from Alabama you know...) Belle. She has been on extended stay over at her grandparent's house but Uncle promised us she will be there next time we come... so we played with her toys instead!!!
And we enjoyed some time on the couch with Mom.......

Then Marshall snuck upstairs to get on Uncle's bed... but he tried to leave when Dad discovered him.....

Then we all got up on the bed to pose for a picture!!! Don't we look so good together- the three of us?? We keep telling Marshall that he needs to pose for more pics- he looks so cute here!!!!
We hope we get to go over to Uncle's again soon!!! It was awesome!! His floors are slippery so we got to slide around all over the place!! So much fun!!!!

Uncle Justin Came to Visit!!

Uncle Justin came to visit and I got some alone cuddle time with him.... this was also after a doggie daycare day, so i was a little tired. Mom thought it was so cute that she went in for a closer look....

She says she doesn't know how i sleep like that.... she would get a crick in her neck....whatever that means!!! Justin sure was comfortable. I don't know how i got to be the lucky dog to take a nap with him.... marshall and maggie sure are slacking!!!

I even had time to change positions!!! I like it when Uncle Justin comes to visit!!

(marshall not pictured because he hates cameras, but rest assured, he has been as sleepy a puppy as we have. mom tried to get his picture but the actual turning on of the camera made him wake up and leave the room- she told me she is going to have to be crafty to get his picture because he isn't on the blog as much... i don't know why he is so shy-- we love the camera because we are so photogenic!!! :P )

Yesterday morning, we went to the local Farmer's Market!! it was awesome!! there are lots of other dogs walking around and a bunch of little kids who want to run up and pet us, so it is lots of fun. The only thing is- it wears us out afterwards, and we have to take some long naps.... or at least we try to until Mom and Dad decide we look cute sleeping and take pictures of us!!!!
